To satisfy a growing demand to provide CNC turning centres with longer beds, two long bed versions of existing machines were introduced at EMO 2007
Haas Automation said that many turning shops are seeing a trend toward longer parts that require secondary machining operations. The ability to machine these parts on a single CNC lathe in one setup reduces the cost per part and eliminates secondary operations. To satisfy such demands, Haas has introduced long bed versions of its existing SL 20 and SL 30 CNC turning centres.

A Brother 4-axis, twin-pallet, vertical machining centre supplied by Whitehouse Machine Tools is helping Hydraulic Projects machine control valve and marine steering system components
Control valve and marine steering system components are being machined at least twice as quickly in fewer operations at Hydraulic Projects (Hy-Pro), Dawlish, on a Brother 4-axis, twin-pallet, vertical machining centre (VMC) supplied by Whitehouse Machine Tools. Installed in July 2007, the machine matches the output of two older 3-axis VMCs which have been sold.

To machine small, complex components in as few operations as possible, a multi-tasking mill-turn centre has advanced work-handling system
Introduced at the recent EMO 2007, Yamazaki Mazak showed Manufacturingtalk its Integrex i-150, which has been designed to machine small, complex components in as few operations as possible. The Integrex i-150 is designed to eliminate the problems normally found on this class of machine - such as short axis strokes and a restricted machining area.

An affordable wire-EDM machine delivers reliable spark performance, flexibility, simplicity in programming, ease of work preparation and an aesthetic design, all at an attractive price
At EMO 2007 exhibition, GF AgieCharmilles' CUT 20 range of wire-cutting EDM machines was designed to help customers 'Achieve more', said the company. The CUT 20 range puts machine speed and affordability at the forefront, providing a standard level of accuracy and surface finish where production costs often are more critical than extreme accuracy,, said AgieCharmilles in a repoirt to Manufacturingtalk The CUT 20 range represents a convergence of EDM know-how by GF AgieCharmilles Research and Development and the company's Swiss values to meet the market's demand for affordable wire-cutting EDM solutions for a wide variety of applications, from the production of mechanical components and electrodes to a large pallet of stamping dies.

Metal working trade fair meets the expectations
Bielefeld. With an order intake of EUR 162.6 million and a total of 526 machines sold, GILDEMEISTER takes positive stock of the EMO 2007 in Hanover that ended Saturday evening. At this most important trade fair worldwide for metal working GILDEMEISTER has achieved the highest trade fair order intake in the history of the company. Equally important are the 9,108 follow-up offers triggered at the EMO for business transactions after the fair and for the financial year 2008.
GILDEMEISTER as the largest exhibitor with 4,000 square metres presented 70 exhibits, 14 of which were world premieres. The technical innovations and especially the new machine design attracted high attention with the international trade visitors.

Using ultrasonics frequencies up to 48kHz to vibrate a cutting tool in a VMC enables hard machining and high speed machining as well as machining conventionally in the same machine
DMG is using ultrasonics to provide high frequency tool oscillation at a frequency of up to 48,000/s to enable hard machining, as well as high speed and conventional milling processes in the same spindle of a vertical machining centre. When this capability is integrated with the added flexibility of 5-axis, five-face component machining and the higher productivity achieved by using linear axis drive technology, said DMG to manufacturingtalk, the latest DMG HSC Linear vertical machining centre offers a self-contained system for optimising production process in difficult materials.
