UK machining subcontractor has purchased its first CNC sliding head automatic lathe, which will replace three existing cam-operated automatic lathes in machining complex work
While celebrating its 60th anniversary, Chris Colclough general manager of Manchester Automatic Machining Co, UK, ordered its first new CNC sliding head automatic lathe - a Citizen L20-VIII - at NC Engineering's recent Open House. The Citizen L20-VIII will replace three of the 19 cam autos installed in the 750ft2 subcontract machine shop that employs nine people in Sale, Cheshire.

Latest twin-turret, twin-spindle, turning centre offers simultaneous cutting of two workpieces combined with barfeed and parts handling to dramatically reduce cycle times
Yamazaki Mazak introduced its Hyper Quadrex 150MSY twin-turret, twin-spindle, turning centre at EMO 2007 in Hannover, Germany last month. The machine is for the efficient cutting of bar material up to 65mm diameter. It offers simultaneous cutting of two workpieces combined with barfeed and automated parts handling to dramatically reduce cycle times, said Yamazaki.

Applying linear motor drives to wire-cut EDMs raises precision and provide vibration-free operation, while latest control systems reduce energy consumptipon by about 40%
Sodick' claims that its linear motor technology has revolutionised the AP wire-EDM series of machines, providing vibration free travel, an even higher level of precision and more dynamic machining. Furthermore, said Sodick, the new CNC system working in conjunction with the linear motors and the LQ control reduces energy consumption by about 40%.

An increase of 40 per cent to machine rigidity and twin-servo wire tension control giving 35 per cent fewer mechanical parts, are factors that improve performance of the latest Fanuc wire EDM range
An increase in capacity making it the largest working volume in its class with faster automatic wire feed and improved thermal characteristics, an increase of some 40 per cent to machine rigidity and the addition of twin-servo wire tension control giving some 35 per cent reduction of mechanical parts, are all key factors to improve performance of the latest top-selling Fanuc wire EDM range.

Introduced at EMO 2007, a wire EDM machine, equipped with linear motor drives, is claimed to be the world's fastest of its type in large die manufacture
Sodick's AQ series, claimed to be the world's fastest and highest accuracy wire-cut EDM, incorporates the latest technology. Features include linear motors drives and has now been extended even further, with the launch of the mighty AQ900L. The AQ900L has been developed in response to the growing demands for large die production.

Italian builder of CNC automatics introduced advances in the design and control of CNC single- and multi-spindle lathes as well as multislide machines, all developed to raise output and flexibility
At EMO 2007, Gildemeister Italiana, or Gital, showed six CNC automatic lathes for the first time. They were the Sprint 20 linear and Sprint 50 linear automatic lathes, the GMC 35 linear/ISM and GMC 42 linear/ISM multi-spindle machines, and the MSL 42 and MSL 60 CNC-controlled multislide automatic lathes.

A multi-spindle automatic lathe designed for machining parts from billets features a 'toboggan' loading system that allows two work pieces to be processed simultaneously
For machining pre-partly or semi-machined work pieces or billets, Tornos, at EMO 2007, showed its MultiAlpha 8x20 CNC multi-spindle turning machine, which is fed with components or billets by a 'toboggan' system. The 'toboggan' system enables the machine to be loaded in two positions. Two work pieces are then machined per cycle using four workstations doing the same operations twice.
