A twin-spindle, three-turret, three Y-axis turning centre with up to 72 driven tools allows a standard set-up to produce an extremely wide range of components, said the user
UK machining subcontractor Rotec has acquired a Nakamura-Tome Super NTY3 twin- spindle, three-turret, three Y-axis turning centre. It works alongside Rotec's existing sliding head automatics to produce components up to 42mm diameter from bar faster, and with more milling power, than the sliding head machines can on parts up to 32mm diameter.

Die-sinking EDMs have, as standard, quality glass scales, which continuously measure and correct axis positions, ensuring that all components are in the required range of accuracy
GF AgieCharmilles' Form 20/30 range of die-sinking EDM machines emphasize production efficiencies, reliability and ease of use. The company said at EMO 2007 that its Form 20/30 adds profitability without extreme investment. It is backed by more than 100 years of combined EDM know-how and the industry's most comprehensive offering in terms of services, consumables and spare- and expendable parts, all from a single source.

Custom-built horizontal machining centers are machining the James Webb Space Telescope mirror segments positioning them within a few microns anywhere in a machining envelope
The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) will study the earliest galaxies and some of the first stars formed after the 'Big Bang'. The JWST has a 6.5m mirror, which is comprised of 18 beryllium segments recently completed by Axsys Technologies in its climate-controlled factory in Cullman, Alabama, USA.

Machining centre uses micro tools for high speed machining and its large machining table full enclosure feature a solid steel base for safety and stability
Datron's excelsiorR Lite machining centre is specifically for manufacturers who need innovative high-speed machining technology but, for budget reasons, are unable to afford a machining center made exclusively for small tooling - 1/4in (6.5mm) and under. Datron Dynamics president, Walter Schnecker, said: 'We carefully cut a few corners without sacrificing the core integrity of our technology.' An example of this is that the excelsiorLite has an aluminum bed rather than the granite table found on its 'big brother' the excelsiorR EX.

CNC-multislide lathes are compact machines to replace older single spindle automatics for the serial production of medium-size, simple workpieces made from brass, aluminium and steel
Gildemeister Italiana (Gital)introduced six world CNC production lathes at last year's EMO 2007: two Sprint 20 linear and Sprint 50 linear Automatic Lathes; two GMC 35 linear/ISM and GMC 42 linear/ISM Multi-Spindle Machines and the MSL 42 and MSL 60 CNC Multislide Automatic Lathes. Apart from innovative additions to its core business - conventional and CNC automatic lathes - Gital said at EMO that it is very focused on its two new CNC-multislide automatic lathes.

Special SS bar taps components, sourced outside the UK, did not meet quality standards so a UK machine shop, using a vertical machining centre, did the job properly
When a Chinese machinist failed to deliver the level of quality required for special bar taps made from 316 stainless steel, another customer helped the manufacturer to find an alternative machine shop - R E Enfield - to produce a batch of 16,500 tap assemblies, each comprising eight parts. Managing director of the privately-owned Hatfield, UK, R E Enfield company, Derek Enfield, said that the company had been set up by his grandfather 103 years ago.
