The fully automated 'one-hit' production cycle takes just 90 secs to process a complete automotive wheel hub involving robotised part transfer, integrated turning, milling, boring and drilling is to be demonstrated on the 600 Centre stand at MACH 2008 using Fuji Machine's highly productive cell technology.
The Fuji ANW-35T + HM-30T cell, configured by 600 Centre of Shepshed near Loughborough, using Fuji's standard production modules, includes inlet work stocker, auxiliary loader, orientation devices and an outlet conveyor system.
These field-proven elements have been integrated into the two machine cell comprising the dual spindle, dual turret ANW-35T lathe and HM-30T four-axis milling centre.
The HM unit provides a simultaneous milling capability while the ANW lathe performs the turning operations.
Each machine within the cell has the benefit of an integrated four-axis, high speed swing-arm robot to transport the part through a separate guarded enclosure during the machining cycle.
Components flow through the cell from the raw material work stocker, through each machine spindle to final off-loading.
Within the cycle of operations, parts can be placed in peripheral devices such as a gauging station or re-gripping station according to process requirements.
The Fuji ANW lathe is available in four sizes designated 30T, 35T, 41T and 51T having worksizes from 200 mm diameter by 95 mm long to 500 mm diameter by 250 mm long.
Eight turret positions are available on the ANW-30T and 35T, 12 positions on the ANW-41T and 10 on the largest capacity ANW-51T.
Spindle powers range from 7.5 kW to 30 kW and each is managed by Fanuc 180i-TB control system.
Meanwhile, the four-axis HM-30T and HM-34T milling centre has capacities that complement the dual spindle ANW lathe.
Included in the specification is a C-axis driven by 3 kW motor and, in addition to the axial or radial driven spindles, a further option enables angle hole machining using a special B-axis fixed angle tool unit, via the Fanuc 210i-MB control.
The six station turret will accommodate 25 mm shank tools through the 5.5 kW, 3,200 revs/min drive while the standard 10 and optional six and 15 station turrets have 20 mm and 16 mm tool shank capacity and a higher speed of 5,000 revs/min.
The L292 swing-arm robot can be fitted with a wide range of single or double gripper devices able to accept parts up to 40 Kg.
An interchangeable double gripper for shaft type machining is also available.
To accommodate pre-machined and post-machined dimensions, each gripper has a large stroke, up to 100 mm on diameter, and is programmed through the Fuji MAX SPI robot controller using nine standard selectable sequences.
The robot controller is integrated with the machine control and is operated via a 12.1 inch touch screen or convenient hand-held pendant.
The integral Windows XP computer interface aids functionality and ease of use.
The MAX SPI software has the ability to select the robot path trajectory to provide least cycle time motion thus eliminating the normal point-to-point movement with a more fluid motion of operation.
