Using linear motors on all axes of die sinking machines ensure acceleration of up to 2G as well as feeding and fast traverse speeds of 36 m/min in the Z axis.

Sodick's AQ L series has a new design and opens up a new dimension in the area of die-sinking EDM, thanks to 3D Q3vic Solution, new LQ control with SVC circuit and linear motors on all axes.

The linear motors on all axes of the AQ L die sinking machines ensure acceleration of up to 2G as well as feeding and fast traverse speeds of 36 m/min in the Z axis.

In other words: optimal high-speed processing that ensures numerous advantages for the user.

For example, the rapid acceleration as the blade moves up and down through the work-piece generates a pump effect that keeps the spark gap free from eroded particles, gases and other residue.

This minimises secondary and other undesired discharges due to eroded particles or other influences, making it possible to generate even deep extractions without the need for flushing.

And varying conditions in the gap are also a thing of the past.

The processing quality is no longer limited by the flushing process and the know-how it requires.

The linear motors on all axes are just one of the characteristic features that set the new AQ L series apart.

Beginning with EMO, all AQ L machines also feature the 3D Q3vic Solution and new LQ control.

The 3D Q3vic Solution is a pioneering high-tech packet for optimising every aspect of the EDM process.

It improves the performance of Sodick's die-sinking and wire EDM machines with linear drive by an additional 40 percent.

Via an interface, 3D solid data can now be transferred directly from the CAD system to the LQ control, and analysed from there using special software that converts it into process data.

Thus, for the first time, users can take advantage of a continuous, three-dimensional process chain from design to production, eliminating the time- consuming detour caused by CAM systems and abstract 2D data on the machine.

Thanks to the 3D Q3vic Solution, each AQ L die-sinking EDM machine "knows" in detail what task it is to perform, even before the first spark - without requiring additional input on the part of the operator.

The LQ control automatically calculates not only the machine's axis movements but also those parameters for electrical current and spark gap that keep wear to a minimum at every point of the process - always based on the work-piece and electrode geometries that have been read into or calculated by the machine.

Set-up times are reduced to an absolute minimum, and the quality of work results is no longer dependent on the expertise of the operator.

Simply enter beforehand the specifications regarding material, surface quality, position of the work-piece and any electrode changes that may be necessary during sinking in the menu-based dialogue with the LQ control.

This virtually rules out operation errors, particularly because the EDM process can be simulated in 3D and monitored before production begins.
