Consistently designed as a future-safe, state-of-the-art modular system, the ZEUS M offers you the optimum solution for any application.

The ZEUS M is available as single- and two slide machine, depending on your specific application needs. The maximum grinding length is up to 950 mm with a maximum diameter of 435 mm, depending on the configuration and the application.

Technical characteristics of the machine:

The machine base has been engineered in order to comply with the force range during the grinding operation. The use of concrete polymer ensures the necessary damping and temperature stability. In order to meet the higher requirements of the extended machine base of the two-slides version, the rigidity has been additionally increased by a steel / welding design.

Guide-way systems:

Depending on the application task the optimum guide-way system can be selected accordingly. This could be the cost-effective linear anti-friction guide-way system for cylindrical grinding, the slide-way system or the hydrostatic guide-way with hydrostatically threaded spindle for camshaft grinding. The use of a linear motor for the crankshaft grinding is planned. As an option, the different guide-way systems can be selected independently from the machine configuration according to the customer's request.

For the two-slides version the concept of the guide-way systems allows the movement of the two slides right next to each other with only a very small safety gap for the grinding wheel protection covers. As a result, even cams or journals positioned closely to each other can be ground simultaneously. Of course, a dynamic collision control via the CNC control system takes place during the entire operation in order to prevent damage due to program errors.

Balancing system:

A state-of-the-art balancing system allows the automated high speed balancing also for the two-slides version with highest accuracy. The contactless transmitter and sensing element is mounted directly onto the grinding spindle. This permits an almost complete movement of the grinding wheels toward each other.

Control system:

The CNC machine control system Siemens 840 D with Simodrive 611-drives is used. Special attention has been given to the ease of operation, in particular for machine set-up procedures. This has been accomplished with a special SCHAUDT MIKROSA BWF operator interface including touch panel. As a result a comfortable correction of grinding parameters is possible.

Dressing device:

All known dressing devices can be utilized depending on the grinding application. This applies to the fixed diamond dressing plate as well as to the rotating dressing devices such as profile rolls or cup wheels. The rotating dressing devices are all suitable for CBN applications due to the maximum revolutions of 16.000 RPM. Sufficiently dimensioned traverses of the axes allow usage of only one dressing device also for the two-slides-version. Therefore not only set-up times but also the overall investment will be reduced.

Machine cover:

The stable and highly sealed design permits the use of emulsion or oil. In order to prevent the danger of explosion while using oil, the cover is equipped with specially positioned pressure relieve flaps. The optimum functionality has been impressively proven during special tests. The operator panel has been integrated within the machine cover in order to cut down floor space.

Machine table:

The machine table has been arranged with an angle of 20 degree. This is in accor-dance with an optimum force range during the grinding operation. The operator friendly designed stopper bar allows best repetition accuracy for the positioning of the work table devices. The stiffness of the entire system has been optimized due to the so called swallowtail guide-way of the work table devices and the stiff linking to the machine base. The supply of the necessary utilities (e.g. oil, coolant, air, etc.) takes place in fixed installed pipework.

Ease of servicing:

Due to a consistent separation of the wet- and dry-areas within the machine, potential faults will be inhibited. The engineering of the machine has been thought over very much in detail. In case of service, special openings allow easy access to all wear and tear parts.
