HEAVY CILINDRICAL GRINDING MACHINES

HEAVY CILINDRICAL GRINDING MACHINES

Heavy cylindrical grinding machines 3M193, 3M194, 3M195, 3M196, 3M197 and 3M198 are designed for external grinding of cylindrical surfaces and conical surfaces (except machine 3M198). They are used throughout a wide range of industries — metallurgical works, heavy and medium engineering works, ship-building yards, factories of the light and food industries. The machines are applicable for traverse and infeed hand grinding as well as for traverse grinding with automatic intermittent feed at reversal of the table.

  • DESIGN FEATURES

The steplessly variable control of the work speed and of the longitudinal and cross feed rates provides optimum grinding conditions.

The high surface speed, 50 m/s (9840 in/min) guarantees high production capacity and quality of grinding.

The grinding wheel spindle is supported in hydrodynamic plain bearings with non-circulating flow lubrication, which, due to the absence of wear of the bearings, provides the same grinding conditions at any surface speed

The ball bearing lead screw of the feed mechanism guarantees a high accuracy of the wheelhead travel to the intended size irrespective of the arising wheelhead external loads.

The use of linear-motion antifriction bearings increases the responsiveness of the wheelhead and main sliding (lower) table to small movements thus providing a high repetition of positioning.

The hydraulic equipment and electrical apparatus are located outside the machine which considerably reduces the effect of temperature strain and vibration on the finish accuracy.

The two-stage coolant cleaning plant enables to increase the quality of grinding and prolongs the life of the coolant itself.

The wheel vibration amplitude indicator enables to minimize quickly the wheel unbalance by means of a balancing device.

The machines can be supplied complete with the following truing devices: a diamond-point (or carbide disk) holder mounted on the tail stock for truing the wheel periphery and face, universal bench device for truing the wheel periphery and face at any angle, and an on-the-wheelhead automatic wheel truer.

  • BED AND TABLES

The box bed with reinforced ribbing is built up of two frames, front and rear, pinned and bolted together.

The table of the machines (except 3M198) consists of two parts, a main sliding (lower) table and an auxiliary table-top. An electromechanical and a hand drives are provided for moving the tables. The table-top is pivoted (except machine 3M198) and provided with a hand swivel gear and a reading device for visual checking the angle of wing and taper.

  • WHEELHEAD

The wheelhead is carried on wide-spaced a V-type and a flat guideways, which makes the wheelhead rigid and its movement stable. The grinding wheel is driven by a d.c. motor through a V-belt transmission.

  • WORKHEADS AND RESTS

The headstock spindle is stationary. Rotation to the work is imparted from a d.c. motor through a three-stage V-belt reducer and a driving plate. The driving plate is mounted on a cardan shaft which allows it to swing lightly and transmit torque to the work supported in rests when the work axis of rotation is in line with that of the driving plate.

The tailstock sleeve is spring-loaded due to which the necessary force for clamping the work in the centres and compensation for temperature changes in the length of the work and machine are provided. Special screw-type mechanism are provided for pushing the centres out of the headstock spindle and tail stock sleeve. Used on the machines are open two-jaw rests of the types differing in the design of the lower jaw mechanism. The lower jaw of the rests for supporting large diameter shafts is of the wedge-pluger type, and that of the rests for supporting small diameter shafts, of the lever type. Change liners are provided to enable grinding over the entire range of journal diameters. The travel of the rests for machines 3M195, 3M196, 3M197 and 3M198 over the table is hand-controlled.

  • CROSS FEED MECHANISM

The cross feed mechanism is carried on the wheel-head body and provides the following movements: the wheelhead cross feed by means of a handwheel, electromechanical rapid wheelhead setting travel, auto-matk intermittent wheelhead feed at the table reversal (from the left, from the right, from the left and right), hand jerky wheelhead feed by a fixed amount (one limb division), machining the work to the right trip dog in traverse grinding with removal of the prescribed allowance.

  • HYDRAULIC AND LUBRICATION SYSTEMS

The hydraulic system performs the following functions: rapid back feed/infeed of the wheelhead, intermittent feed of the wheelhead at the table reversal, supply of coolant during grinding and truing the grinding wheel, lubrication of the grinding wheel spindle bearings, lubrication of the guideways of the table and wheelhead, and lubrication of the machine mechanisms.

  • COOLING SYSTEM

The machines can be supplied complete with a self-contained cooling system. The coolant is cleaned in two stages, by means of a magnetic separator and a filter-transporter.

  • ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT

The electrical equipment operates from a three-phase a.c. supply line.

The d.c. motors are energized from thyristor converters located in the electrical equipment cabinets.

The wiring between the cabinets, separately located power units and the machine is run in metal ducts and rubberized fabric flexible tubes.
